A24 has snatched up the screen rights to the Stephen King dark fantasy bestseller “Fairy Tale” with plans to adapt it as a ten-episode series rather than a feature.

The story follows a 17-year-old boy named Charlie Reade who inherits the keys to a portal and enters a terrifying world where good and evil are at war and both worlds are at stake.

“Bourne” sequel and “United 93” filmmaker Paul Greengrass, who penned a film script adaptation and was lining up to direct that take, is expected to remain involved.

His script will now be expanded upon by himself and J.H. Wyman (“Fringe,” “Almost Human”) with the latter to serve as showrunner.

King’s book clocked in at over 600 pages, leaving plenty of material to fill out the episodes as it was deemed impossible to convey in a two-hour film.

Greengrass is also likely be involved as director, but his deal is not yet done on that front. Peter Rice will be executive producer alongside Greengrass, Wyman and King.
