SEGA’S ICONIC VIDEOGAME FRANCHISE, SHINOBI, SLASHES ITS WAY TO UNIVERSAL PICTURES WITH SAM HARGRAVE DIRECTING
Sam Hargrave, Ken Kobayashi, Marc Platt Productions, Story Kitchen, SEGA Corporation and Universal Pictures team-up to bring SEGA’s iconic franchise to the big screen.
Sam Hargrave (Extraction franchise) is set to direct an adaptation of SEGA’s iconic franchise, SHINOBI, with Ken Kobayashi (Sunny, Move On) adapting the screenplay for Universal Pictures.
Marc Platt and Adam Siegel will produce through Marc Platt Productions. Dmitri M. Johnson will produce through Story Kitchen. Toru Nakahara will produce through SEGA. Mike Goldberg will executive produce alongside Timothy I. Stevenson, who is co-producing.
The SHINOBI series first debuted in 1987 as an arcade game and primarily follows protagonist Joe Musashi as a modern-day ninja who confronts great evil. Crafted with a focus on epic and edgy action, the SHINOBI franchise spans fourteen games, including spinoffs, and ports, with 5M+ copies sold worldwide. SHINOBI follows Universal Pictures’ 2023 video game adaptation success with The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Five Nights at Freddy’s which grossed over $1.4B and $290M respectively in the global box office.
