By Filmmaker David F. Sandberg (“Shazam,” “Annabelle: Creation,” “Lights Out”) has done a post on Instagram confirming that his upcoming horror film “Until Dawn” has concluded filming in Budapest.
The film is an adaptation of the acclaimed 2015 PlayStation game which centres around a group of friends reuniting at a snowy mountain retreat after the death of twin sisters they all knew a year earlier on the mountain.
They soon find themselves terrorised by masked men, men who tie back to an old and abandoned sanatorium along with an old nearby mine that caved in. Rami Malek, Hayden Panettiere, Brett Dalton and Jordan Fisher lent their voices and likeness to the game.
The game was an interactive drama featuring a ‘butterfly effect’ system in which players make choices. These choices influence the story’s tone and relationships, along with who ends up as victims. All deaths are permanent, as a result it had hundreds of potential storyline permutations.
With the film version, Sandberg directs from a script by Gary Dauberman (“Salem’s Lot,” “IT”) with the cast including Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Maia Mitchell, Belmont Cameli, Ji-young Yoo and Odessa A’zion. Also starring is Peter Stormare, reprising his role from the game of therapist Dr. Hill.
Shooting began in August with the film targeting a release next October. The news comes as a PS5 and PC version of the game was released this past week, though reviews have been mixed as the release is said to have some bugs.
