By Josh Brolin has reportedly passed on an offer to star as Hal Jordan in the upcoming “Lanterns” TV series from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television.
THR revealed the news, confirming Brolin was eyed to play the cocky Hal Jordan previously played by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 film which was an infamous box-office disaster.
According to multiple sources, Brolin received an offer late August and made the decision this past weekend. The trade also shot down the rumor of Matthew McConaughey being up for the role.
Casting rumors that revealed Brolin’s potential involvement have indicated that they’re looking for an actor in their 50s for the role, aiming for an older Hal Jordan character to work alongside a younger John Stewart character – that role has yet to be cast.
The story sees the two characters investigating an Earth-bound murder with larger implications, the tone said to have a gritty “True Detective” style feel.
Chris Mundy (“Ozark”) serves as showrunner on the eight-episode series and will co-write with “Watchmen” and “Lost” producer Damon Lindelof and author Tom King.
Casting is currently underway, directors are being hired and shooting aims to run from January to June in Atlanta.
