Hot off his new film “Queer” premiering at Venice, filmmaker Luca Guadagnino (“Suspiria,” “Call Me By Your Name”) is reportedly in talks to direct an adaptation of the DC Comics title “Sgt. Rock” at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Guadagnino’s name has been rumored to be linked to a project set within James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe for months, but it was never clear which one. Now, Nexus Point News and The Insneider are both reporting that it’s “Sgt. Rock”.
Additionally, it has been added by the former that it will be a WW2 period piece film, not a TV series, and it will be written by Guadagnino’s new go-to screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes (“Challengers”).
The comics follow Sgt. Franklin Rock, an infantry non-commissioned officer who managed to participate in every major action in the European part of World War II. He’s an incredibly skilled fighter and sniper and has both endurance and a borderline sixth sense when it comes to danger. Otherwise, he’s a regular human.
Gunn and Safran have been meeting with multiple filmmakers over the past last few months, and just what Guadagnino sees in this property is unclear.
Guadagnino most recently wrapped “After the Hunt” starring Julia Roberts. He’ll next shoot “Separate Rooms” starring Josh O’Connor and Lea Seydoux.
