“Heroes” and “Scream VI” star Hayden Panettiere will star in “A Breed Apart,” the upcoming sequel/part re-imagining of the widely panned 2006 Wes Craven-produced horror feature “The Breed”.’
Nicholas Mastandrea helmed the original film which follows two brothers and their friends who travel to an island cabin they inherited from their recently deceased uncle.
Their getaway is soon spoiled when they find themselves besieged by ravenous genetically enhanced dogs bred to kill via an abandoned training facility on the island.
The new take isn’t so much a remake as a meta-sequel as it is set after events of the first film. In it, a pack of dogs escape during the production of a fictional “The Breed 2” movie which is filming on a remote island.
Years later, a group of YouTubers are drawn to that island to try and find the canines in a project they hope goes viral and which is the brainchild of influencer Vince Venture (Bragg).
They soon face a fight for survival and each of the influencers must use their unique skills to stay alive.
“Fall” duo Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Currey re-team here for the film alongside Joey Bragg, Troy Gentile, Riele Downs and Page Kennedy.
Griff and Nathan Furst are directing and producing the film for Curmudgeon Films and Daro Film Distribution. A 2025 release is planned.
Next up for the two-time Golden Globe nominee Panettiere is Lionsgate thriller Amber Alert, which she toplines. She is repped by Mainstay Entertainment, Independent Artists Group, and Hansen, Jacbobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox.
