“One Piece” franchise creator Eiichiro Oda has revealed which story arcs the currently filming second season of the Netflix live-action series adaptation of his work will tackle.
Oda has been involved in the live-action series since its inception with the showrunners and those involved frequently consulting him and getting his input.
The overall manga and anime consists of eleven ‘sagas’, each of which consists of 1-5 arcs of varying lengths. The first season tackled most of the East Blue Saga with arcs “Romance Dawn” (episode 1), “Orange Town” (ep 2), “Syrup Village” (eps 3-4), “Baratie” (eps 5-6) and “Arlong Park” (eps 7-8).
In a posting on social media, Oda says the new season will similarly cover five arcs including the last of the East Blue Saga and much of the Arabasta saga. This includes “Loguetown,” “Reverse Mountain,” “Whiskey Peak,” “Little Garden” and “Drum Island”.
Surprisingly the adaptation is not racing into the “Arabasta” arc itself – the biggest and final arc of the Arabasta Saga – though it’s likely some elements of it will be included so the show’s possible third season could potentially tackle the “Arabasta” arc and much of the Sky Island Saga.
Oda also says new casting announcements will be made over three consecutive days and will begin starting this Wednesday.
A previous round of casting announcements saw the additions of David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3, Clive Russell as Crocus, Callum Kerr as Smoker, Rob Colletti as Wapol and others hoping onboard.
Still, several of the season’s biggest new key roles have yet to be announced including Nico Robin, Portgas D. Ace, Crocodile, Princess Vivi, Dr. Kureha and talking reindeer Tony Tony Chopper. Many of those will likely be revealed this week.
Filming on the new season is expected to continue through until year’s end ahead of a premiere on Netflix as early as late 2025.
