Who among us is not a fan of John Carpenter’s The Thing? It feels like an Outposter touchstone. It is one of those movies that probably forms something of a foundation for our entire movie nerd existence. A gory, and terrifying, rite of passage to the younger versions of ourselves and a gateway drug into what would eventually be part of why we are all here, at the Last Movie Outpost.
Well, now we can indulge ourselves and immerse further than before into the story behind one of our cinematic crutches. Thanks to Outposter Bourgeoisie Scum for bringing this to our attention.
The Thing Expanded aims to be the ultimate fan experience, delivering 20+ hours of online events, including Q&As with the cast & crew and personalized copies of The Thing Expanded documentary.
The team behind the documentary says it will be:
“…the ultimate love letter to The Thing, the people who made it, and the communities who love it. Featuring brand new interviews with the original cast and crew, including our just-filmed interview with John Carpenter, this will be the most detailed analysis ever made of your favorite film.”
Ultimately, there will be a year of live online Q&As with The Thing cast and crew, regular vidcasts that take a deep dive into specific topics, and other community events.
To join, order merhcnadie or the Blu-ray you can go to their website. There, as long as you get signed up before 2nd September, you can even lay down some cash and get yourself an Associate Producer credit on the documentary. This gets you full access, your name in the credits, and exclusive merchandise.
No word yet on whether some kind of blood test will be required to access the events, maybe while tied to a chair.
