Long-running video game magazine publication Game Informer is closing down 33 years after it launched in August 1991.
The magazine was known for its unprecedented access, revealing dozens of games over its history. It was one of several famed game publications in the 1990s including GamePro (1989-2011) and Electronic Gaming Monthly (1989-2014).
In the mid-2010s, it was the fifth most popular magazine by copies circulated – reaching nearly 8 million subscribers.
In a letter posted to social media platforms including X, the company says:
“After 33 thrilling years of bringing you the latest news, reviews, and insights from the ever-evolving world of gaming, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Game Informer.
From the early days of pixelated adventures to today’s immersive virtual realms, we’ve been honored to share this incredible journey with you, our loyal readers.
While our presses may stop, the passion for gaming that we’ve cultivated together will continue to live on. Thank you for being part of our epic quest, and may your own gaming adventures never end.”
The title was owned by parent company GameStop. Though the magazine had a strong online presence, the website has been taken down and has been replaced by a splash page.
