With the announcement of “Avengers: Doomsday” at Comic-Con, the news effectively sweeps aside the remnants of the previously planned Kang the Conqueror storyline.
Just over a year ago, Marvel was invested in its plans for the villain, whom Jonathan Majors had been playing across “Loki” and the third “Ant-Man” film.
But then Majors was arrested for assault and Disney fired him after his conviction. Marvel had to either recast or change its plans, and no-one was quite sure which option they would take until this past weekend with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom taking over.
In a brief interview with TMZ, Majors was asked about the news, saying he is: “Heartbroken! Come on, of course! I love Kang. Doctor Doom is wicked though.”
The Russo brothers return to direct both ‘Doomsday’ and “Avengers: Secret Wars” which releases a year later so it’s assumed the productions will be shot pretty close together after filming on “Avengers: Doomsday” begins early next year in the UK.
“Avengers: Doomsday” is set to release on May 1st 2026.
