The annual Xbox Games Showcase closed out its presentation with ‘one more thing’ – that being the reveal of a brand-new “Gears of War” game titled “Gears of War: E-Day”.
The game will serve as a prequel story starring younger versions of Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago, and depicting the very start of the Locust invasion on ‘Emergence Day’.
Game developer The Coalition says it aims to “recreate and improve the series’ trademark third-person action, charging between cover in life-or death situations, all set within an explosive campaign that combines satisfying gameplay and emotive, character-led storytelling.”
The aim is to deliver a presentation that shows off truly next-gen tech, but presented in the form of a classic “Gears of War” game.
The title has been developed in Unreal Engine 5 and will include 100 times more environment and character details than Gears 5, along with hardware raytraced lighting, reflections and shadows, and next generation destruction and gore..
Creative Director Matt Searcy says they are “revisiting the tone and the feeling of what makes Gears great” but using “new techniques, new processes, and new technology” to make the gameplay feel better than ever.
“Gears of War: E-Day” will be released exclusively for PC and Xbox Series X | S. No release date is yet set.
