Earlier this morning came the announcement that “Hunger Games” franchise author Suzanne Collins would be releasing a new book in the saga on March 18th 2025.
Well Lionsgate, the studio that has done the various screen adaptations of the saga so far, is not wasting any time whatsoever.
Within hours, the studio issued artwork confirming that not only is a film adaptation on the way, but it already has a release date of November 20th 2026.
Titled “Sunrise on the Reaping,” the fifth novel in Collins’ bestselling series is a mid-quel set forty years after the events of ‘Ballad’ and just over thirty years before the original “The Hunger Games”.
Events will unfold during the Second Quarter Quell, the game that was won by Woody Harrelson’s character Haymitch Abernathy in the films. Casting for a younger version of Haymitch will no doubt get underway quick.
The film will follow on from “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” which made $337.4 million at the global box office on a $100 million budget. The overall franchise has generated $3.3 billion for Lionsgate.
Welcome to the Second Quarter Quell.
