77-year-old filmmaker Oliver Stone is still at it, almost exclusively doing documentaries these days with his latest, “Lula,” premiering at Cannes yesterday.
That film, which he co-directed with Rob Wilson, deals with the comeback of left-wing Brazilian leader Luiz Inácio ‘Lula’ da Silva who regained the presidency after spending nineteen months in prison.
Now, in a new interview with Deadline, the “Platoon” and “JFK” director says he’s currently working on what he says will be his last scripted narrative film and his first since 2016’s “Snowden”. That film scored mixed reviews and has mostly been forgotten, making just $37.3 million worldwide on a $40 million budget.
Just how ‘big’ Stone’s next film will be isn’t clear, but when asked about doing another narrative film rather than a documentary, he says:
“I’d like to, I think I have one more in me. I do have a narrative film in mind, but I can’t tell you what it is […] I know you’re going to ask that. But it is an important narrative. I’d like to have one more film if I can get it done. It’ll be done in the next year, that’s for sure.”
Across his career, Stone has received four Academy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and five Golden Globe Awards.
