By Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy, who previously teamed up on Andy Serkis’ “Breathe,” will lead a new film adaptation of the Enid Blyton’s classic children’s novel “The Magic Faraway Tree”.
The story follows Polly (Foy) and Tim (Garfield) and their children Beth, Joe and Fran – a modern family who find themselves forced to relocate to the remote English countryside.
The books take place in an enchanted wood in which a gigantic magical tree grows – its topmost branches reach into the clouds. It’s wide enough to contain small houses carved into its trunk.
The kids befriend many of the residents and have adventures in magical lands reachable from the top of the tree.
Neal Street Productions, Elysian Film Group, and Ashland Hill Media Finance are backing the project which begins filming next month.
Additional casting is currently underway. Simon Farnaby (“Wonka,” “Paddington 2”) is penning the script whilst Ben Gregor (“Britannia,” “Cuckoo”) directs. Pippa Harris, Nicolas Brown, Danny Perkins and Jane Hooks produce.
