With Superman long behind him, Henry Cavill is currently setting up shop at Lionsgate with two Guy Ritchie films and Chad Stahelski’s “Highlander” reboot on the way.
The first of the Ritchie films is “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” which arrives next Friday. The second has been untitled until today when it was revealed at CinemaCon that it will be titled “In the Grey”.
That European-set action film was shot late last year in Tenerife and stars Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza Gonzalez. The story centers on a group of extraction gunmen who, when billions are stolen, attempt to steal it back.
The film marks a re-teaming of multiple people involved – it’s Cavill and Ritchie’s third film together, and Ritchie’s second with Gyllenhaal and Gonzalez. Gonzalez, who co-stars in ‘Warfare’ with Cavill, starred with Gyllenhaal in “Ambulance”.
Cavill, appearing at CinemaCon, also teased the “Highlander” movie to the crowd. After starring as Geralt of Rivia for three seasons of “The Witcher,” you’d think he’s learned all he needed to in regards to swordplay. That’s not the case he says:
“If you thought you’d seen me do swordwork before, you haven’t seen anything yet. I’m a lover of the original [‘Highlander’] movies, for better or for worse, and it’s one of those things where when I was reading the script for the first time, I wasn’t quite too sure where they were going to go with it… My goodness me oh my, we are going deep into these characters.”
Stahelski is currently working on extensive reshoots on the “John Wick” spin-off “Ballerina” in Budapest with a trailer showcased at the event featuring Keanu Reeves and star Ana De Armas. That clip also reportedly showed a bit of sword swishing action.
