By Playwright and screenwriter Beau Willimon has been set to write the script for director James Mangold’s upcoming “Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi” feature at Lucasfilm.
Though Willimon is best known for creating the U.S. version of “House of Cards”, he’s also the one who wrote what’s arguably the best part of the first season of “Star Wars: Andor” – the trio of episodes set primarily within the Narkina 5 prison (and also includes Stellan Skarsgard’s memorable ‘what have I sacrificed’ monologue).
The project is expected to trace the origins of the Force and be set 25,000 years before any of the timelines and stories told by the movies and series so far.
“Ford vs. Ferrari” and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” director Mangold has previously dubbed his take as something akin to “a Biblical epic, like a Ten Commandments, about the dawning of the Force.”
Mangold is currently filming his Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown” starring Timothée Chalamet. Once that wraps, he’s expected to turn his attention to “Dawn of the Jedi”.
The project was first unveiled a year ago at the last Star Wars Celebration in London in April 2023. The news of the hiring follows on from Disney earlier today scheduling “The Mandalorian & Grogu” film for a May 22nd 2026 release.
