Vertical has released the trailer for “Clouds of Sils Maria” filmmaker Olivier Assayas’ new political thriller feature “The Wizard of the Kremlin”.
The story follows the enigmatic Vadim ‘The Tsar’ Baranov, a TV producer before becoming a political advisor who helped the rise of Russian political leader Vladimir Putin.
After Baranov’s resignation from this position, legends about him multiply until one night when he tells his story.
He reveals a Russian state with sycophants and oligarchs in open warfare, and Baranov, a master spin doctor, wants to get out as he learns of the increasingly dark secrets of the regime.
Oscar nominated actor Jude Law plays Putin alongside Paul Dano as Baranov. Also starring are Alicia Vikander, Jeffrey Wright, Will Keen, and Tom Sturridge.
An adaptation of Giuliano da Empoli’s 2022 debut novel, Assayas co-wrote the script with Emmanuel Carrère while Olivier Delbosc produces. The film opens May 15th.
