Vertical has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to the sequel to Andrew Niccol’s 2005 Nic Cage-led film “Lord of War”.
THR reports that the indie distributor has slated “Lords of War” for a 2027 theatrical release, with first footage set to be previewed at CinemaCon next week.
First announced back in late 2023, the title didn’t begin filming until November last year, with shooting taking place in Belgium, Morocco and Egypt through early February.
Alongside returnee Cage will be Bill Skarsgård (“IT”), Laura Harrier (“Spider-Man Homecoming”), Sylvia Hoeks (“Blade Runner 2049”) and Greg Tarzan Davis (“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning”).
The new film sees Cage’s gunrunner Yuri go head-to-head against his own son, Anton (Skarsgard). A chip off the old block, Anton hasn’t simply followed his father into the arms trade, but is going one step further.
Anton is amassing a mercenary army to fight America’s conflicts in the Middle East, and soon a bitter rivalry erupts, with the two at odds over everything – including the same women.
Cage, Philippe Rousselet and Fabrice Gianfermi are producing, and Skarsgård is executive producing.
