It’s official, Netflix’s live-action “One Piece” series is returning to screens in 2027 with the third season, which has been in production in South Africa since the end of last year.

The streamer has unveiled the third season’s subtitle, ‘The Battle of Alabasta’, which follows on from the second season’s ‘Into the Grand Line’, and delivered a graphic-centric promo showing off the desert setting that will dominate the run.

Joe Manganiello’s Crocodile/Mr. 0, introduced in the final moments of the second season, and the remaining members of Baroque Works are expected to serve as the main antagonists of the new run, including returnee Lera Abova as Nico Robin/Miss All-Sunday along with newly cast Cole Escola as Bon Kurei/Mr. 2, Awdo Awdo as Daz Bonez/Mr. 1 and Daisy Head as Zala/Miss Doublefinger.

The straw hats crew at the end of the second season all return including Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, Charithra Chandran as Princess Vivi and Mikaela Hoover as the voice of Tony Tony Chopper.

Sendhil Ramamurthy, who plays Vivi’s father Nefartari Cobra, is also back. The biggest addition of the whole season is “Cobra Kai” star Xolo Maridueña who will make his debut as Portgas D. Ace.

The two previous seasons each adapted around 46 episodes of the anime into 8 live-action episodes. The Alabasta arc in the anime clocks in at 38 episodes on its own, so it is expected to easily dominate the season. Whether some of the smaller arcs that come after, like Goat Island or Jaya, will also be adapted isn’t yet clear. Here’s the official synopsis for the third season:

“War is coming for Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat crew in the desert kingdom of Alabasta, Princess Vivi’s homeland. A rebellion threatens to tear the nation apart, fueled in secret by one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, the ruthless Sir Crocodile, and his underground syndicate Baroque Works, who seek to conquer Alabasta for themselves.

In a season defined by unbreakable bonds and impossible choices, the Straw Hats must face a brewing civil war and a powerful warlord to save Vivi’s kingdom before it crumbles into the sand.”

The second season premiered on the streamer on March 10th this year to 100% critics & 95% audience review scores on Rotten Tomatoes. The show has topped Netflix’s global charts for three weeks now and has especially fared well overseas, but is slightly down on the first season and has struggled slightly in the United States.

Netflix has also released a trailer for “LEGO One Piece,” a two-part LEGO animated special offering an abridged retelling of the first two seasons of the live-action series – but seemingly from the perspective of Usopp. That launches September 29th.
