I’m a big fan of Backkrooms, and I’m looking forward to this. The original YouTube series was brilliant, and one guy created it all by himself. A24 picked it up, and it’s now a movie.

We reported a while ago that Backrooms had a feature production on the way. It’s been created by YouTuber Kane Parsons. He made a video about a mysterious set of rooms and hallways that didn’t seem to go anywhere.

The movie will star Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Avan Jogia, Lukita Maxwell, Renate Reinsve, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. I’ll admit, being a fan of the original Backrooms, I hope the cast isn’t too big. The whole idea of the original series was how lacking it was.

As I said, I’m a fan of the original series. I loved how they kept you guessing what was in each room, without telling you anything about why they were there. I think it was Hitcock that said, “If you have a spy carrying a case and being chased, never reveal what’s in the case”. This is exactly what Backrooms does; it doesn’t reveal the mystery of the rooms themselves.

A24 production seemed like a good idea, but now I’m not so sure. They also picked up another YouTube short, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, which was an original idea, but the movie didn’t work. I hope this doesn’t happen with Backrooms.

Backrooms will be in cinemas on the 29th May. Please be good, please be good, please be good.
