The sea is calling once again….as Walt Disney Studios releases the new official trailer for the upcoming live-action reimagining of Moana. View trailer below.
Prompted by a summons from the ocean, Moana departs her home island of Motunui for the first time and travels past its barrier reef. Accompanied by the demigod Maui, she undertakes a voyage aimed at recovering the well-being of her community.
I was a big fan of the original Moana animated movie. It was fun, visual impressive, and had plenty of good songs throughout. It’s sequel, however, not so much as I felt it lacked the same type of energy and charisma that the first one was able to achieve. So, with the news that Disney was going to do a live-action remake of Moana, I was skeptical. The new trailer for this upcoming project does showcase plenty of new footage, which does look good in some areas and a bit questionable in others. Most notable in Maui’s hair wig on Johnson as well as some 1v1 (shot for shot) images. All in all, I am interested to see how this movie will be presented and how it will be received by moviegoers, but I am leery about it and still have my reservations.
Moana arrives in theaters on July 10th, 2026
