As you know, a reboot/revival (yes, that’s a new term) of The X-Files is in the works by Ryan Coogler. A short while back, the studio announced that they had greenlit a pilot for the new series.
Coogler will write and direct the first episode, so it will be picked up, because, well, Coogler. After his record 16 nominations for Sinners (with only 4 wins), we’re pretty sure he’ll get what he wants.
With filming due to start, the producers still hadn’t announced any cast members. But they have finally found the new ‘Dana and Scully’. It’s not yet confirmed which roles they will play, but Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler have now been cast as the leads.
As has been reported, Coogler had been in talks with Gillian Anderson about appearing in The X-Files. It seems like she would appear and possibly ‘hand over the baton’ to the new cast. Coogler said about Anderson:
“She’s incredible, and fingers-crossed there…we’re gonna try to make something really great… and really be something for the real X-Files fans, you know what I’m saying? And, maybe, find some new ones.”
According to Anderson, she said the script for the re-whatever-to-call-it was “really good” and she thinks the new series is going to be cool. No one has mentioned anything about David Duchovny; I guess his opinion or appearance means nothing.
There is no news on when the pilot of The X-Files will be shot or released, but you can bet it will be showered with praise and glory.
