Universal Pictures, Illumination and Nintendo have revealed that Fox McCloud, the lead character of the “Star Fox” video games, is a part of the cast of “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie”.

The space pilot character, first introduced in 1993, has scored his own poster for the film, but no voice actor for the role has been revealed at this time.

The release has stirred talk that Nintendo may be building towards a “Super Smash Bros.” movie, especially with one of the characters from “Pikmin” also teased in a prior trailer.

Ticket pre-sales are reportedly surging for the new film ahead of its debut next Wednesday. Global Box-Office reports that the film is now tracking to score the biggest opening weekend of the year to date with $175-200 million for the Easter Holiday weekend.

The film has little in the way of competition as the Zendaya-Robert Pattinson rom-com “The Drama” is tracking for a $15-25 million debut the same day.

Chris Pratt (Mario), Charlie Day (Luigi), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek) are all confirmed to be returning for the new film which will be the centerpiece of the Mario character’s 40th anniversary.

“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” opens in cinemas on April 1st.
