Universal Pictures has set a December 22nd 2027 release date for the Jamie Lee Curtis-led film adaptation of the iconic CBS TV series “Murder, She Wrote” at Universal Pictures.

“Pitch Perfect” and “Shotgun Wedding” helmer Jason Moore is directing the project which sees Curtis starring as mystery writer and amateur sleuth Jessica Fletcher.

The late, great Angela Lansbury starred in the series as Jessica Fletcher, a mystery novelist who lives in Maine and uses her skills at deduction to figure out the identity of the extraordinary number of murderers she encounters in her life.

The series ran for twelve seasons and saw her nominated for an Emmy every year. Universal Television produced the series, which found a loyal audience and was seemingly only cancelled because of a timeslot change in its final season.

A failed attempt was made over a decade ago to develop the property as a series with Octavia Spencer before it was scrapped in development. News came in 2023 that Universal Pictures was working on a film adaptation with Curtis confirming her involvement last year.

Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo (“Dumb Money”) have penned the film while the “Spider-Verse” team of Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Amy Pascal are producing.
