It’s no secret that Daredevil had a problem. Deep into development for an MCU reintroduction, it was spinning up at a time that Marvel Studios seemed to realise that it had made some terrible mistakes in Phase 4. Suddenly, their plans, tone, and approach for Daredevil were thrown out.

Dario Scardapone was brought in as showrunner. His team completely reworked the show, and it became Daredevil: Born Again. It was pretty decent for a salvage job. Audiences seemed to agree, with a reasonable 87% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Having dragged their assess out of a self-inflicted fire, Marvel rewarded Scardapone with a new, full season from scratch. With no salvage required, would this team do an even better job?

Well, the answer appears to be “yes”, as the reviews are now out for the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, and it is currently sitting at 96% on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing.

The news seems to be of a dark season with plenty of MVP Wilson Fisk. This season also features the return of Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones. Here is what the summary pages say:

“This world, dark and unoptimistic as it is, has much to offer…this show very much merits its continued existence with its strong worldbuilding and formidable performances.”

Abe Friedtanzer, Awards Buzz

“Scardapone digs deeper into personal and societal dysfunction than ever. He also brings last year’s dangling story threads to satisfying conclusions.”

Bob Strauss, SF Chronicle

“All eight episodes of Season 2 are a solid watch with some surprises that will blow Marvel comic book fans’ minds.”

Lupe Rodriguez Haas, CineMovie.tv
“Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is a meaningful evolution that captures a lot of what has made Daredevil such a beloved character in print, while still allowing the show to be bigger and more action packed than its Netflix era.”
Dominic Griffin, Looper.com
“Dark, gritty, and brutal, but also brilliant storytelling. High stakes, epic reveals, and a battle for the city that hits home.”
Tessa Smith, Mama’s Geeky
“Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is the gritty, A+ masterpiece we’ve been waiting for. The Devil is back, and he has never looked better.”
Michael Sowell, Nerdspin

“Strikes a more assured balance than before between Matt/Daredevil’s belief in the rule of law, his desire to take matters into his own hands, and his Catholicism-driven struggles with guilt, salvation, repentance, and grace.”

Nick Schager, The Daily Beast

The first episode is available on Disney+ now, and the second and third episodes drop together next week. It then arrives weekly, until May 5th.

On May 12th, the special presentation The Punisher: One Last Kill will be released on Disney+, which is widely expected to pave the way for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
