It’s official, Marvel Studios’ “The Punisher” Special Presentation one-off has landed a name and release date.
The title is “The Punisher: One Last Kill” and is set to premiere on Disney+ on May 12th.
Shot in late July and a few days of August last year, it marks the second of three projects in the MCU that see Jon Bernthal reprise his role as Frank Castle/The Punisher from the Marvel Television & Netflix TV series.
The first was the first season of “Daredevil: Born Again”, which aired last year. That show is about to return for a second season tonight, but its stars, Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, both confirmed this week that The Punisher character doesn’t return in the new season. D’Onofrio said on X:
“If John wasn’t busy making his own hour-long Punisher film and hangin with that insect, we would have wanted him to join us in Season 2 for sure. Yet he had a wonderful opportunity to do the other projects, and I for one can’t wait to see him in those.”
This “Punisher” special is releasing on the service the week after the second season finale of “Daredevil: Born Again” on May 5th, suggesting something more than a coincidence.
Bernthal will also reprise the role in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”, opening in cinemas in July. “The Punisher: One Last Kill” also stars Jason R. Moore, Roe Rancell and Mila Jaymes. Plot specifics are under wraps.
