In December, what appeared to be the first trailer for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” leaked online.

Shot with a very old phone, out of frame and in worse quality than even camcorded pirated movies back in the day, it appeared to be a capture from a website designed for studios to receive feedback on early trailer cuts.

From what little that could be seen, the trailer was reportedly rough with some bluescreen shots and plenty of unfinished VFX. That isn’t surprising as filming had only just finished and the film was still months away from releasing its first trailer.

Now, a new report from someone claiming to be an editor who worked on the preview has gone into how the leak had a big impact on the actual official teaser trailer release last week.

Posted by popular social media accountSpider-Man News, the report claims that due to changes to the previous version of the trailer following the leak, the “team had to urgently remake a new version in a very short time… In order to release it today, the entire project directly entered ‘runaway mode.’”

What does that mean? They say: “Everyone voluntarily worked overtime, weekends were reduced by half, and everyone was constantly synchronizing the progress.” They also claim that things went down to the wire, with shots being adjusted and refined as recently as the day before release.

Whatever the case, the hard work paid off – the film’s trailer launch was the biggest of all time going by the numbers issued by Sony.

The new film is set several years on from “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is now an early twentysomething living alone after erasing himself and the memories of him from everyone – instead, devoiting himself wholeheartedly to protecting his city as Spider-Man full-time.

The stress triggers an unexpected physical change that threatens his existence, while a strange wave of crime emerges – and gives rise to one of the most dangerous threats he has ever faced.

Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo co-star in the film which Destin Daniel Cretton directs. It opens in cinemas on July 31st.
