The fate of the reboot of “Cliffhanger” appears to be on the edge of a cliff following a report in Variety indicating that the film’s indie distributor Row K Entertainment is facing cash flow issues.

Multiple sources for the trade indicate the company has been struggling with finances, leading to “work stoppages and legal threats”.

Questions are being raised over Row K’s slate of films, one of them being the “Cliffhanger” reboot starring Lily James and Pierce Brosnan. The trade claims according to their sources, Row K never formally closed its acquisition deal which means a new buyer could come along if Row K’s troubles continue.

A 3,000-screen U.S. theatrical release in August is still currently slated for the film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (“The Shallows,” “Carry-On”) with a story by Ana Lily Amirpour (“The Bad Batch”).

Brosnan plays seasoned mountaineer Ray Cooper, who operates a luxury chalet in the Dolomites with daughter Sydney. During a weekend trip with a billionaire’s son, they are targeted by a gang of kidnappers.

His other daughter Naomi (James), still haunted by a past climbing accident, witnesses the attack and escapes. To save her family, she must confront her fears and fight for survival.

Also in question is Maude Apatow’s directorial debut “Poetic License” which was acquired out of Toronto following rave reviews. Its release has been delayed from May to September.

A statement from the company to the trade says: “Row K is well-capitalized, continues to support its existing projects, and is focused on long-term, sustainable growth with a clear emphasis on commerciality.”
