A new report at TMZ claims that filmmaker Quentin Tarantino will write and both he and Sylvester Stallone will co-direct a 1930s-set gangster series.

The outlet says the pair envision the project as a six-episode limited series, with “a full array of gangster elements: shootouts, boxing, showgirls, brass bands, etc.”.

Tarantino has long experessed an interest in the 1930s gangster genre, at one point he was said to be considering directing a “Star Trek” film inspired by a classic series episode in which the crew visit a planet with an Earth-like 1920s gangster culture.

The surprise is Stallone who has never worked with Tarantino before, even as he was rumored for both “Jackie Brown” and “Death Proof” at one point. Tarantino has long expressed his admiration for Stallone’s directorial work.

Plot details of this series are under wraps but if it happens as claimed, it would be Stallone’s first time directing since 2010’s “The Expendables” and his first time directing anything for television.

The report says the show will “be shot in black and white, using 1930s cameras”. No word on a potential producer, distributor or any dates as yet.
