We recently reported that Paramount Pictures and Hasbro were taking in two competing takes on GI Joe. One from Max Landis and one from The Righteous Gemstones star and creator Danny McBride.

The idea was that they would play them off against each other, or potentially combine them through other writers.

Now, according to Variety, they have declined one. The version Max Landis submitted will not be taken forward.

The report says they declined to proceed with it for creative reasons. Landis confirmed that his script starts from he point of view of COBRA having:

“…successfully taken over the world and reduced GI Joe to a conspiracy theory”.

Well…

Following two movies and a spin-off that flopped, GI Joe entered a period of stasis, but the new leadership at Paramount is learning hard on existing IPs and pushing for relaunches and reboots.
