If you are of a certain age, then there is nothing quite as tragically funny as hair rock, and if you are just a tiny bit older, hair rock is the most awesome thing ever. And then there is the argument over whether Bon Jovi is even “rock” at all.

Sure, they may be coded as “an iconic American rock band”, but their blending of hard rock with pop-influenced arena rock, glam metal, and then melodic anthems can send some rock aficionados into spasms of rage if anyone dares mention Bon Jovi alongside other rock acts.

lol

We look forward to this argument unfolding again with the news that Universal Pictures has won the bidding war for a biopic about the iconic band. After Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody, musical biopics were big business. After Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere… not so much.

Founded in 1983, Bon Jovi went from New Jersey clubs to playing the biggest arenas globally. It wouldn’t be a band without rousing anthems, arguments, tantrums, fights, and a sacking or two along the way. All grist for the movie biopic mill.

Slippery When Wet was their globally massive smash hit album, which sold over 20 million copies and gave the world some of their best known songs, such as You Give Love a Bad Name, Livin’ on a Prayer, and Wanted Dead or Alive.

Cody Brotter (Killing Satoshi) is writing the screenplay for the film, and then a director will have to be found.

Kevin J. Walsh and Gotham Chopra produce.
