Oscar nominee and original “Rambo” star Sylvester Stallone has officially boarded Lionsgate’s upcoming prequel film “John Rambo,” which is currently in production,” as an executive producer.

The project, which began shooting in Thailand in late January, sees Noah Centineo (“The Recruit,” “Street Fighter”) starring in the project set during the Vietnam War, years before the events of “First Blood”.

“Sisu” helmer Jalmari Helander directs the project from a script by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani (“The Mauritanian,” “Black Adam”) with Millennium Media and AGBO also behind the project.

Along with starring in them, Stallone also wrote all five previous “Rambo” films and directed the 2008 fourth installment “Rambo”. He won’t star or write here, but will produce – the first time he has done so for a film in the franchise.

The cast includes Yao (“Sinners”), Jason Tobin (“A Thousand Blows”), Quincy Isaiah (“Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty”), Jefferson White (“Yellowstone”), and Tayme Thapthimthong (“The White Lotus”).

Kevin King Templeton, Les Weldon, Jonathan Yunger, Michael Disco and Angela Russo-Otstot produce, while Anthony & Joe Russo are among the executive producers.
