Box-office revenue for “Avatar: Fire and Ash” looks set to end up just shy of $1.5 billion, a far cry from the $2.3 billion of the second film and and $2.9 billion of the first.

As a result, questions have lingered for months about whether Disney will move forward with the remaining two films that filmmaker James Cameron had planned. Cameron’s seemingly apprehensive comments in interviews didn’t help much either.

Now though, the famed “Titanic” and “Aliens” director appears to be changing his tune. Appearing at the Saturn Awards over the weekend, Screen Rant reports that Cameron stated that while an official decision hasn’t been made yet, a fourth film is now “very likely”.

In addition, he’s taking audience feedback into consideration for the next instalment. Several early sequences for the next film were already shot during the production of “Avatar: Fire & Ash” which were filmed before the kid actors could age out.

The question is, will Disney, especially under new CEO Josh D’Amaro, still want to proceed with making and marketing the two films, which will both be of considerable expense.

The studio has yet to set either a PVOD or Disney+ premiere date for the film.
