Lanterns, a new superhero tv series based on the DC Comics Green Lantern mythology, is heading to HBO Max in August 2026.
Created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and comic writer Tom King, the project marks the third television series set within the expanding DC Universe.
The show blends science fiction with a grounded investigative tone, following two members of the intergalactic Green Lantern Corps assigned to a mysterious case on Earth. John Stewart, a new recruit still learning the responsibilities of the Lantern ring, is paired with Hal Jordan, one of the Corps’ most experienced operatives. Their mission begins with what appears to be a routine investigation in a remote region of the United States.
As the case develops, the two Lanterns uncover clues suggesting the crime is part of something far larger. What begins as a single murder investigation slowly reveals a deeper conspiracy with potentially cosmic consequences. The narrative leans into a darker thriller tone while still exploring the broader scale and mythology associated with the Green Lantern universe.
Aaron Pierre leads the series as John Stewart, with Kyle Chandler portraying Hal Jordan. Lanterns is produced by HBO in partnership with Warner Bros.
