John Leguizamo is the latest to join the cast of Mike Flanagan’s “The Exorcist” film at Universal Pictures, as production gets underway next week.

Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sasha Calle, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane also star in the project, with Johansson as a mother and Jupe as her son.

Leguizamo is rumoured to be playing an antagonist, but any further plot and character specifics regarding the film are under wraps.

What is known is that Flanagan wrote the script and is directing and producing the film, described as a ‘fresh and bold’ new take with no link to the 2023 “The Exorcist: Believer” film, which flopped at the box-office.

Instead, it’s set in the same ‘universe’ as the films but won’t be a sequel or remake. Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and Morgan Creek Entertainment are backing the feature.

Universal Pictures will release the title theatrically on March 12th 2027. Leguizamo most recently lent his voice to “Zootopia 2” and will appear in Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” this Summer.
