It has been about ten minutes, so to fill the gaps between adaptions of Robin Hood, it’s time to have another re-telling of Treasure Island.
This one will star David Oyelowo (Selma), Hayley Atwell (Mission: Impossible), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), and Tomer Capone (The Boys).
This is a six part re-telling of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic 18th-century adventure, and is dubbed as a:
“…bold, high-stakes coming-of-age adventure series for a new generation…”
Uh-oh. These phrases are usually synonymous with twat-fuckery and a lack of respect for the source material in the hands of creatives who think they know better.
Let’s see…
Tom Sweet (Childhood of a Leader) will play Jim Hawkins, who finds himself in possession of a legendary treasure map.
His mother Bess will be payed by Atwell.
Their possession of the map leads them to be aboard the Hispaniola, alongside unpredictable pirate Long John Silver (Oyelowo), Aaron Graham (Huston), and Billy Bones (Capone).
According to the blurb:
“Jim has to grow up fast as he and his mother fight for survival on a voyage where alliances shift, secrets multiply and peril closes in from all sides.
Set across the Atlantic, in a Caribbean on the brink of revolution and on the terrifying Skeleton Island, the series tracks Jim as he confronts a world far more complex and dangerous than he ever imagined, where resilience, loyalty and identity are tested – and fortune is the prize.”
It is a co-production between Paramount+ and MGM+. No release date is confirmed, but Treasure Island is currently filming in Spain.
