Disney+ and the Disney Channel have handed out a formal green light for “Zombies 5,” a fifth instalment in the kid-friendly musical undead franchise.

Following the events of “ZOMBIES 4: Dawn of the Vampires,” the newfound peace between the Daywalkers and Vampires is put to the test when a band of fierce mermaids arrives in Rayburn, making waves and casting a persuasive siren song to lure in new allies.

Nova and Victor must unite their groups once more to discover what the mermaids are really after in order to protect the fragile harmony they worked so hard to build.

There’s a notable switch-up here as regular leads Milo Manheim and Meg Donnelly won’t be returning as Zed and Addison, respectively.

Instead, the fourth film’s Malachi Barton and Freya Skye will reprise their roles as Victor and Nova. Manheim and Donnelly remain attached as executive producers.

Other returning cast members include Trevor Tordjman as Bucky, Swayam Bhatia as Vera, Julian Lerner as Ray, and Mekonnen Knife as Vargas. They’re joined by Diaana Babnicova as cool-girl Pearl, Taylor Oliver as bad-boy Fin, Olive Mortimer as tech-wiz Sandy – all three of which are mermaids.

Emily Costtrici also joins the cast as Zed’s zombie cousin and new transfer student, Izzy. Filming begins in New Zealand this spring, with the official title set to be announced closer to release.
