Despite garnering the worst reviews of the franchise to date, Paramount Pictures’ “Scream 7” is on track to beat projections at the box-office.

The film reportedly pulled in $28 million on Friday, including Thursday night previews of $7.8 million, which has revised domestic opening weekend estimates up to $59 million, with some suggesting more than $60 million.

That’s considerably bigger than the $44.4 million domestic debut of “Scream VI” in 2023, which was the franchise’s biggest debut until now.

Going into the weekend, projections were hovering around $40 million domestic and $60 million worldwide; those numbers are now going to go notably higher.

The win is being seen as a big one for David Ellison’s Paramount, right as his company’s merger with Warner Bros. Discovery has been confirmed.

Next week, the film faces stiff challenge from Pixar’s “Hoppers”, which is tracking for a $50-60 million debut, along with Maggie Gyllenhaal’s “The Bride!”, which is aiming for $15-25 million.
