What can you say about The Thing that hasn’t already been said? Well, quite a lot apparently, especially in a new documentary about John Carpenter’s classic from 1982.

5 hours of The Thing! Yes please! The Thing Expanded has been made by the team that brought us Aliens Expanded and In Search of Darkness, both of which I’ve seen, and both are incredibly insightful.

This new documentary goes into detail and interviews never seen before, including interviews with Kurt Russell and John Carpenter, Keith David, Thomas G. Waites, David Clennon, Joel Polis, Richard Masur, and Peter Maloney. It also talks to a lot of the crew who helped make The Thing.

It will feature:

“…five hours of new insights, stories, and revelations into John Carpenter‘s Classic”.

The Thing Expanded has been directed by Ian Nathan, who directed Aliens Expanded, and is a very insightful movie buff. Honestly, he could outclass Yoda on Star Trek! No, that’s a silly thing to say, of course, he couldn’t. I’ve seen him present programs on Sky Arts about movies, and he knows his stuff.

It will also include interviews with movie makers like Frank Darabont and Guillermo del Toro, as they share their thoughts on one of the best sci-fi horrors ever made.

The Thing Expanded will be released on Blu-ray/Digital, where you can pre-order it. The window to do so runs until the 24th of March. Shut up and take my money!
