Disney has officially confirmed that “Black Panther” and “Sinners” filmmaker Ryan Coogler’s reboot of “The X-Files” has been given the greenlight for a pilot at Hulu.
Coogler will write and direct the pilot while Jennifer Yale (“The Copenhagen Test”) has been set as showrunner reports Deadline.
Danielle Deadwyler (“Till,” “The Woman in the Yard”) is set to star as a co-lead and is the only confirmed name thus far.
She will play one of two vastly different FBI agents who form an unexpected bond when both are assigned to a long-shuttered unit within the agency – a unit that investigated unexplained phenomena.
Yale, Coogler, Sev Ohanian, Zinzi Coogler, and original “The X-Files” creator Chris Carter will all produce.
In April last year, on a podcast, Coogler confirmed he had spoken with original star Gillian Anderson about the reboot, which aims to be “really f—ing scary”.
