Amazon, MGM Studios, and Orion Pictures have premiered the trailer for “Is God Is,” a new film adaptation of playwright-turned-filmmaker Aleshea Harris’ own 2018 play “Is God Is”.

Kara Young and Mallori Johnson lead as the twin sisters at the center of the story, one with disfiguring burn scars. The pair are ordered by their bedridden mother to kill their abusive father, who caused all their scars in a deliberately set fire years ago.

The girls must decide whether to seek vengeance or find mercy, meeting a host of colourful characters along the way before they take on their father, ‘The Monster’.

Also starring are Vivica A. Fox as the pair’s mother, Erika Alexander as a preacher, Mykelti Williamson as a shady lawyer, Janelle Monáe as the new wife of the girl’s father and Sterling K. Brown as the father.

The original play received 3 Obie Awards and the American Playwriting Foundation’s Relentless Award.

Tessa Thompson, Kishori Rajan, Riva Marker, Janicza Bravo, and Harris produces the film which opens in cinemas May 15th.
