We had the teaser for Lee Cronin’s The Mummy recently, and it looked interesting. Well, there’s now a full trailer.
It certainly looks like an original take on the story; the mummy seems to be a daughter. It turns out this Mummy has nothing to do with the original Universal Mummy property. Universal has three Mummy projects on the go: this one, a sequel to the Brendan Fraser movie, and also a prequel.
Lee Cronin’s The Mummy stars Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Veronica Falcon, Emily Mitchell, Natalie Grace, and Hayat Kamille. The story is:
The young daughter of a journalist disappears into the desert without a trace-eight years later, the broken family is shocked when she is returned to them, as what should be a joyful reunion turns into a living nightmare.
Lee Cronin is the writer and director of Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, obviously. Cronin is known for 2023’s Evil Dead Rise. I have seen it, but couldn’t tell you a thing about it now. It was one of those ‘same universe’ movies that didn’t really go anywhere. It certainly wasn’t the original Evil Dead.
This new version is being produced by Atomic Monster and Blumhouse. Will it be a Blumhouse movie that is actually scary? Only time will tell.
The Mummy will be in cinemas on the 17th of April.
