The remake of Baywatch has just taken a more interesting turn, because it has been revealed that it isn’t a remake at all. It is a continuation. Stephen Amell (Arrow, Heels) has been set as the lead role. According to the report in Variety, the twist is that the lead is Hobie Buchannon.

This is the character played by Jeremy Jackson in the original show, who was the son of Mitch, the character played by David Hasselhoff. Events in this continuation will be kicked off when Hobie’s life as a Baywatch Captain, following in his legendary father’s footsteps, is thrown into turmoil when the daughter he never knew he had arrives on the beach, and is determined to become a lifeguard herself.

Baywatch is set up at FOX, and has Charlie’s Angels and Terminator Salvation director McG as Exec. Producer and helmer of the first episode.

There is already a twelve-episode order in place for the series.

Shooting on the new series of Baywatch will start in March on Venice Beach in Los Angeles, so expect many more casting announcements shortly. An open casting call takes place next week in Marina Del Rey, so if you think you look good in an high cut red swimsuit, get down there and show them your stuff!

Matt Nix (Burn Notice, The Gifted) serves as showrunner, and original series producers Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, and Doug Schwartz also return as Executive Producers.
