This is a weird one, but James Van Der Beek has passed away at age 48. He had been battling colorectal cancer. In a post on his official Instagram account, his family announced the news:

“Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.”

Probably best known for his role in Dawson’s Creek, Van Der Beek starred in many more movies and TV series, like Varsity Blues, Don’t Trust the B**** in Apartment 23, CSI Cyber, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, and Rules of Attraction.

In Dawson’s Creek, I personally never forgave Dawson for giving up on Katie Holmes to chase after Michelle Williams. The series ran for six seasons, from 1998 through 2003. It was created by Kevin (Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer) Williamson.

Van Der Beek’s Dawson was a movie maker who idolised Steve Spielberg. I put on the first season sometime last year, and I have to say it, Dawson was kind of a prick. The king of ‘movie nerd’, who seems to know everything.

I digress, overall, I have fond memories of watching Dawson’s Creek. However, it’s one of those things that’s best left in memory, and not revisited.

Van Der Beek is survived by his wife and six children. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
