Universal Pictures has set a May 19th 2028, release for the next instalment in “The Mummy” franchise, one which will see Oscar winners Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz returning.
Word broke back in November that the actors were in discussions to return for a new entry with Radio Silence‘s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (“Scream VI,” “Ready or Not”) directing from a script by David Coggeshall (“The Family Plan”).
The pair will reprise their famed roles of roguish American adventurer and former French Foreign Legion soldier Rick O’Connell and English Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan.
Both starred in the roles in the original 1999 film and 2001’s “The Mummy Returns” while Fraser returned solo for a third film with Maria Bello taking over the Evie role.
“The Mummy” franchise, if you include the 2017 Tom Cruise reboot, has grossed over $1.8 billion worldwide. Sean Daniel, William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein will produce.
No other films are currently set for that May 2028 release date.
