Young actor Callum Vinson (“Long Bright River,” “Poker Face,” “Chucky”) has scored the key role of Atreus, son of Kratos (Ryan Hurst), in the “God of War” TV series for Amazon Prime.
Vinson joins other cast members such as Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Teresa Palmer as Sif, and Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka as brothers Brok and Sindri.
Atreus is described in the series as the ten-year old son of Kratos, who grew up in a remote forest cabin and raised almost entirely by his mother.
He is an accomplished archer, has an affinity for animals and is intensely curious about what lies beyond the confines of his forest home. After his mother’s death, Atreus is left with a cold, distant father whom he barely knows and who knows little about him in return.
Nonetheless, Atreus yearns for his father’s approval and is desperate to prove he is strong enough to survive in a harsh and dangerous world. Vinson will next be seen in the third season of “The Night Agent” and the upcoming “Friday the 13th” series “Crystal Lake”.
Only a few major roles remain to be cast including the female lead Freya, the villain Baldur, and smaller roles like Tyr, Faye and Athena.
The series sees father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.
The series has received a two-season order at Amazon, with pre-production now underway in Vancouver. Ronald D. Moore serves as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner.
