Sony Pictures Animation is reportedly moving forward with an animated “Ghostbusters” movie that is being made as an exclusive for the Netflix streaming service reports The Insneider.
Sam Jarvis (“Dollface,” “Tosh. 0”) will pen the project that marks a new direction for the film part of the franchise. Development is now underway.
The project was first announced back in late 2024 with Kris Pearn attached to direct at the time. The aim was to do for “Ghostbusters” what the “Spider-Verse” films have done for “Spider-Man” – generating not just box-office but strong critical acclaim as well.
An animated supernatural comedy series based on the property was also rumored to be in the works at Netflix a while back, one separate from the film, but there’s been zero further word on that.
The property was previously adapted for animation back in the late 1980s with the beloved “The Real Ghostbusters”.
The film would follow on from the success that Sony Pictures Animation and Netflix had together with last year’s “Kpop: Demon Hunters” film phenomenon.
