Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for War Machine, an action-driven sci-fi thriller that throws Alan Ritchson into a deadly survival scenario during what should have been a routine military exercise.

The film drops Ritchson into the final stage of U.S. Army Ranger selection, where his character, known only as 81, is among the strongest soldiers in the unit.

The trailer opens with a controlled 24-hour endurance test, before the mission spirals into chaos. The squad soon realizes they are being hunted by an “unimaginable threat” – a massive, heavily armed machine designed for one purpose: killing. While its origin is left deliberately vague, the footage strongly suggests alien technology.

As the body count rises, survival becomes the only objective. “Whatever that thing is, it’s hunting us,” 81 warns. Later, the stakes expand when he realizes the encounter may be a signal of something far larger on the horizon.

Director Patrick Hughes pushes the film toward grounded tension rather than spectacle, encouraging Ritchson to approach the story like a horror film. Hughes shot in extreme real-world locations, from mountaintops to violent rapids, forcing the cast into physically punishing conditions. Ritchson credits that approach for the film’s intensity, promising a lean, relentless experience designed to keep viewers locked in from start to finish.
