Paramount Pictures’ fourth “Sonic the Hedgehog” film is still on track for release in March next year.
The movie is expected to introduce a certain pink hedgehog – the hammer-swinging Amy Rose – following her brief appearance alongside a bunch of Metal Sonics in the post-credits stinger of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”.
Though no official details are out, it has been widely speculated that the film will draw inspiration from “Sonic CD”, which introduces both Amy and Metal Sonic as well as a time travel element to the series.
Now, a new report from Daniel Richtman has gone into a bit more detail about the apparent story for the new film. They claim “Amy comes from an alternate future / another Earth where Robotnik and Metal Sonic rule the world”.
As a result, she has travelled back in time to prevent that from happening. That’s different to the game in which the character is just another Hedgehog-like character from Little Planet who travels with Sonic across time.
In fact, the backstory of the character of Silver the Hedgehog in the games is more akin to the one described for Amy in the film. This has raised concerns that Silver won’t be appearing on screen in the films.
The studio is rumored to be trying to enlist an A-list actress to voice the character alongside returnees Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails and Idris Elba as Knuckles.
No cast has been announced as yet.
