Another indie trailer for you. I know most of you aren’t fans, but I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again; indie movies can be a lot better than what Hollywood gives us these days. Empire of Lies has a trailer, about a man dealing with the death of his daughter.

It looks intriguing and seems to only have two characters in an enclosed space. Empire of Lies stars Joseph Millson and Natalie Spence. Matthew Hope is the director and co-wrote with Millson. The story:

When a mysterious young woman comes to interview a paranoid man living in rural isolation, he is forced to confront his part in his daughter’s murder.

More from the press release. Empire of Lies follows David “Dave” Harris, a reclusive man living on the fringes of society who agrees to an interview about the unresolved murder of his daughter. As the interrogation unfolds, Dave’s belief that he was framed by the State begins to unravel. Blurring the line between truth, obsession and self-deception.

The film stars Joseph Millson (Casino Royale, The Last Kingdom, 24: Live Another Day and Banished). He anchors the film’s two-hander structure with a performance that moves between vulnerability, suspicion and moral ambiguity.

Directed by Matthew Hope (The Veteran, All the Devil’s Men), Empire of Lies marks a shift in style and tone for the filmmaker. Moving towards a more intimate, performance-led and psychologically driven approach, while continuing his exploration of paranoia, institutional mistrust and moral ambiguity.

Empire of Lies will have a UK release on the 27th of March.
